Assessment summary

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing reasons for poverty and solutions, and it maintains a clear overall stance. However, it is affected by frequent grammatical errors, awkward word choices, punctuation lapses (such as a sentence fragment), and repetitive vocabulary. Cohesion is occasionally disrupted by mechanical transitional phrasing and redundant repetition of ideas between body paragraphs and the conclusion.

Scoring criteria

Task Response 5.0

Strengths

  • All parts of the prompt are addressed, identifying both reasons for poverty and measures to help the poor.
  • A recognizable position is presented throughout the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.

Weaknesses

  • Some arguments are repetitive or lack deep extension, and certain points are restated almost identically across paragraphs.
  • The introduction contains awkward framing ('after see my perspective').

The essay addresses both questions, satisfying the basic requirements for Task Response. However, because some ideas are underdeveloped and repetitive, and the thesis statement is awkwardly phrased, it does not reach Band 6.0.

Coherence & Cohesion 5.0

Strengths

  • Paragraphs are separated into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions, and a conclusion.
  • Basic cohesive devices are used to connect ideas.

Weaknesses

  • There is a major sentence fragment in the first body paragraph ('As a result,').
  • Some sentences are awkwardly joined, and certain transitions feel formulaic or repetitive.

While the essay follows an overall organizational pattern, the presence of a sentence fragment and mechanical transitions prevent a higher score for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource 5.0

Strengths

  • Some topic-specific vocabulary related to poverty, education, and employment is attempted (e.g., 'unemployment', 'financial problems', 'living standards').

Weaknesses

  • Frequent word formation and collocation errors occur (e.g., 'several cause', 'job's', 'solution reduced poverty').
  • The vocabulary range is limited, with noticeable repetition of basic words.

The vocabulary shows sufficient flexibility to convey general meaning, but pervasive word choice errors, incorrect inflections, and limited lexical range cap the score at Band 5.0.

Grammar Range & Accuracy 5.0

Strengths

  • The writer attempts some complex structures using relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing ('which can help decreased poverty significantly').

Weaknesses

  • Frequent grammatical errors in subject-verb agreement, article usage, verb forms, and punctuation occur throughout the text.
  • Punctuation lapses, such as comma splices and dangling fragments, reduce grammatical control.

Although simple sentences are generally understandable, frequent errors across complex and simple structures demonstrate limited grammatical control, warranting a Band 5.0.
