Standard education has become notably widespread in universities and schools; where pupils concentrate on acquiring general knowledge instead of applying it in the real world. I strongly support this notion due to the reality we are living in.

The importance of this cannot be overstated, particularly regarding spending too much time on acquiring facts and give less time on learning practical abilities. To illustrate, the education process must be balanced between vision and practical work. For instance, there are some classes in London about domestic chores for women that they need to apply in real life; they cannot be skilled by just reading general informations about it, but they can be professionals at it after reading and then applying things in real life.

A further point for consideration involves the importance of giving practical skills enough time. For example, if someone want to persist and reach a level of success in any skill, he must give it time and do it in a practical way, even after dozens of attempts. From my perspective, learning general facts and practical skills simultaneously, is the best approach to follow whether for personal growth or as a statute for universities and schools.

To sum up, I totally agree that students at schools and universities are spending too much time on acquiring general facts and much less time for practical work instead of setting a balance between them. Therefore I would find it better for universities and schools to alter this approach.

Assessment summary

The essay addresses the prompt with a clear position, but the development lacks depth and contains repetitive language. There are numerous grammatical errors, including punctuation splices, tense inconsistencies, and subject-verb agreement issues, alongside lexical limitations and repetitive vocabulary.

Scoring criteria

Task Response 6.0

Strengths

  • A clear position is stated in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay.

Weaknesses

  • Arguments are somewhat underdeveloped and rely on repetitive assertions rather than deep elaboration.
  • Examples are generalized or slightly tangential rather than robustly academic.

The writer addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear stance ('I strongly support this notion'). However, idea extension is limited, and the supporting examples remain quite basic, preventing a higher band.

Coherence & Cohesion 5.5

Strengths

  • Paragraphing is used to separate distinct points.
  • Basic cohesive devices such as 'To illustrate' and 'To sum up' are employed.

Weaknesses

  • Sentences within paragraphs sometimes lack smooth transitions, creating a disjointed flow.
  • Punctuation errors, such as semicolon misuse and comma splices, disrupt structural readability.

While there is a recognizable overall progression, mechanical linkers and faulty punctuation (like the semicolon after 'schools' in the first sentence) hinder smooth cohesive flow.

Lexical Resource 5.0

Strengths

  • Appropriate topic vocabulary such as 'education', 'universities', and 'practical skills' appears in the text.

Weaknesses

  • Vocabulary is repetitive (e.g., 'practical skills', 'general facts', 'real life').
  • Non-standard collocations and word formation issues occur ('general informations', 'statute').

The lexical range is limited, and errors in word formation ('informations') and word choice ('statute') indicate a lack of precision typical of Band 5.0.

Grammar Range & Accuracy 5.0

Strengths

  • Attempted complex structures such as conditional clauses and relative/subordinate clauses.

Weaknesses

  • Frequent grammatical errors including subject-verb agreement ('someone want'), tense shifts ('give less time'), and punctuation errors.
  • Punctuation control is weak, with inappropriate semicolons and comma splices.

Although the writer attempts complex sentences, frequent grammar and punctuation errors restrict the control over sentence structures and lower the accuracy score.
